Summer is finally in full swing and the Altopiano del Sole in July becomes an unmissable destination for nature lovers looking for some fresh air away from the cities and the sultry heat.
The luxuriant forests, green pastures and high-altitude lakes invite visitors to spend sunny days in the open air; mountain huts and refuges reopen their doors to visitors wishing to refresh themselves after a walk in the mountains, setting themselves up as unmissable destinations for those wishing to taste the local products.
In July, the Plateau’s events calendar thickens, offering a wide range of proposals designed to satisfy every type of visitor: families, sports enthusiasts, history, food and wine lovers, music, nature and culture. In short, everyone can find the perfect activity for them.
In this new article you will find some ideas on what to do in July on the Altopiano del Sole.
JULY IN ANGOLO TERME
On Tuesday 1 July the Smile Festival, the event dedicated to comedy, will be inaugurated at the Angolo spa park. The protagonist of the first evening will be Gianluca Giugliarelli, well-known face of successful programmes such as ‘Zelig Off’, ‘Made in Sud’ and ‘Central Station’. The second event, again at the Parco delle Terme di Angolo, is scheduled for 8 July with Marco Dondarini & Davide Dalfiume, a comedy duo that will propose an evening of gags and jokes. Both shows will start at 9.30 p.m. and are free admission.
On Friday 4 and Saturday 5 July, the event Ricordando Suor Giusta (Remembering Sister Giusta) will be held at the parish theatre, with two evenings of live music that will bring the Eskimo Group (4 July) and LigaVisione (5 July) on stage. A food stand will be present for the occasion.
From 18 to 20 July, the hamlet of Anfurro celebrates the traditional patronal festival dedicated to Saints Nazaro and Celso. Throughout the weekend, the food stand will be open from 7.30 p.m., with the classic casoncelli and the typical dish “Sguaset con polenta”. Animation and music will follow.
The following week it will be Mazzunno’s turn, with the Sagra di San Giacomo, scheduled from 25 to 27 July.
Sunday 27 July will also see the start of the Poker della Montagna, Angolo T.’s summer mountain running circuit, with the first trial Anfurro-Sessa.
Finally, from 31 July, the appointment with the Sagra dei Capù di Terzano returns: one of the best-loved events of the Camuna summer, where you can taste Capù, a typical dish prepared by the community according to the ancient local recipe.
JULY IN BORNO
The highlight of July in Borno is the Palio di San Martino, this year in its 19th edition.
The historical re-enactment with a continuous succession of competitions from Friday evening until Sunday, interspersed with banquets, dancing, music and shows. The Palio will begin with the traditional parade on Friday 11 July, followed by a series of challenges that will animate the historical centre until Sunday afternoon, when the winning contrada will be proclaimed.
The “Palio delli Borghi Armati” will also return, where the Camonica Valley municipalities of Borno, Bienno, Breno, Lozio, Malegno, Niardo, Ossimo and Piancogno will compete.
Sunday 6 July sees the return of BIKEnjoy Valle Camonica, the MTB race of the Altopiano del Sole. Two spectacular routes, Classic and Marathon, will allow participants to discover the wonders of the area on two wheels. This year’s Marathon will be valid as a stage of the Italian XCM Championship and will award the winners the tricolour jerseys.
One of this year’s summer novelties will be the Fiesta del Sol, scheduled for Friday 4 and Saturday 5 July. Two evenings of music, taste and pure fun. Dancing with local DJs, having fun with entertainers, and savouring the aromas of the world with two exclusive menus designed for the occasion.
On Sunday 6 July, the Sounds and Arcana event will be held at the Doline Park, a meditation path with a sound bath, discovering oneself through the Tarot.
From 24 to 27 July, the traditional St Anne’s Festival is scheduled in Paline, where in addition to the liturgy there will be entertainment, food stands, popular songs, and the new Friday evening dedicated to young people, with DJ sets.
Saturday 19 at 8.30 p.m. in the Sala Congressi is Art in Borno, an evening presentation of art in Borno in the company of Professor Francesco Inversini. On Friday 25 July, starting at 15:30, the professor will guide tourists and visitors on a walk through the medieval village, while on Monday 28 July at 10:00, it will be the turn of the little church of Sant’Antonio, where works by Callisto Piazza are kept.
On Saturday 26 July at 17:30 there will be a guided tour from the historic centre of Borno to the church of San Fiorino with Annalisa Zini and Marta Tours Tourist Guide, along two different routes, one for adults and one for children.
Also on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 July, don’t miss the painting exhibition Borno in Arte, set up in Piazza Giovanni Paolo II.
JULY IN LOZIO
In July in Lozio the appointment with Falia* returns, the artistic residency project that allows artists from all over the world to spend a period in the area, with the aim of creating a bridge between art and territory. On Saturday 19 July, at the Casa Museo della Gente di Lozio, an event is scheduled to present the works realised by the artists of falía* Artists In Residence 2024 and the new selection of artists of the eighth edition, which will take place from July to September 2025.
On 6 July, the wool processing day at the Casa Arcobaleno returns by popular demand, organised by the Lozio Rainbow Section of the Gruppo Italiano Amici della Natura APS in collaboration with the Coda di Lana Association.
Friday 18 July at the Casa della Sapienza in Sommaprada is the A Riveder le Stelle event, an evening discovering the wonders of the starry sky, the moon and planets, with the support of an astronomical guide. After an indoor presentation, a short walk to the foot of the Concarena will follow, followed by celestial observation together with ‘Billy Astromondo’ in the starry dark of the Lozio Valley.
Among the fixed appointments of the Lozio summer are the traditional torchlight procession of Santa Cristina (19 July) and the Festa dell’Anziano (27 July) at the parish church of S. Nazzaro, followed by a social lunch at the Centro Diurno Anziani in Laveno.
Sunday 27 July will also see the start of the Lozio Volley Tour, the volleyball tournament at the Bar Ristorante Al Resu in Villa.
Monday 28 July will be the second date with Ceramic and Botanical Monday at the Atelier Alida delle Ceramiche in Laveno, the experience that combines nature and creativity, to discover spontaneous mountain herbs and try your hand at a ceramics workshop.
For all mountain enthusiasts, we would like to point out the excursions organised by the GEL (Gruppo Escursionistico di Lozio – Lozio Hiking Group) in July: the Giro in Mortirolo and the Val Canale excursion.
JULY IN MALEGNO
Saturday 5 July in Malegno comes the new Aperitivo in Vigna event, in the evocative vineyard of the Nobili family’s Villa, dating back to 1668.
The protagonist of the evening will be the wine of the Malegno producers, accompanied by a small tasting of typical products. Between the rows of vines it will be possible to taste four different local wines and relax to the notes of jazz music.
From 11 to 13 July, we recommend the Malegno Oratory festival, while on Friday 25 July the Circolo Arci organises the traditional Antifascist Pastasciuttata (Lunch with Pasta).
JULY IN OSSIMO
On Saturday 19 July in Ossimo, the Bait Night, the night walk in the Ossimo woods, returns. A unique experience in the moonlight. The event formula includes refreshment stops, dinner and entertainment until dawn.
On Saturday, 26 July, Piazza San Damiano in Ossimo will host the Spiedo de lo Palio evening organised by the borgo de Osem, one of the villages that will compete for the coveted banner during the Palio di San Martino in Borno.
JULY IN PIANCOGNO
The July calendar of the municipality of Piancogno offers numerous activities and moments of well-being.
Every Thursday at 7 p.m., Yoga in Villa will be held at Parco Penzig; on Tuesday mornings, muscular awakening and Pilates at 8 a.m. at Parco Le Torri (on 29 July at Parco Fonte Stella).
On Friday 25 July, do not miss the Open Air Cinema at the Piazzale dell’ex convitto Olcese, for an evening of excitement under the stars.
Every Thursday evening, there is also the Maia Pumì group training and run, meeting at 19:45 at the Sterlin Bar.
