1. Borno m.900 – Dassine – Balestrini – Malga Mine – Pagherola m.1528

Route characteristics

Itinerary that winds initially along a tarmac road to the Dassine locality. It continues on a dirt road to Malga Mine and then on a path. Beautiful hike through spruce and pine woods, in a relaxing environment.

Description

From Piazza Umberto I, take Via Fonte Pizzoli. Near the cemetery (see arrows), take the road on the left that descends to a sawmill. Pass over a bridge that crosses the Trobiolo stream and continue for a good stretch on level ground and through meadows until you reach the “La Tegola” restaurant (min.25), where (see arrows) a climb begins that leads to two large dwellings. A short level stretch is covered, and the climb continues up to a stream. The slope lessens until an opening where the road curves in an easterly direction and crosses a pine forest. You reach a steep hairpin bend that turns right and continue uphill to the hamlet of Balestrini m. 1171 (1 hour).
Here (directional arrows) it is possible to return to Borno along path no. 2, which passes through the hamlets of Fonte Pizzoli and Lazzaretti.
The itinerary reaches a wooden fountain and continues on the level, overlooking the Valle Camonica and the rocky balconies of the “Visigher”. With short uphill stretches, interspersed with others on a slope, you arrive at Malga Mine m.1314 (1.30 hrs), located in a beautiful meadow basin below Monte Corna Rossa. Cross the level meadow until reaching a masonry fountain. Here, skirting the stream that feeds the fountain on the right, climb up towards the pasture to take the path that enters the wood. Pass a spring and continue uphill, keeping to the bottom of the little valley, which comes out on the ski slopes of Monte Altissimo at Pagherola m.1528 (2 hours).
Here you can choose whether to continue to Monte Altissimo or descend to Borno along the slopes.
