Do you already know what to do in March?

MARCH ON ALTOPIANO DEL SOLE

March has arrived and with it the anticipation of spring, which brings with it the awakening of nature and change in the air.

If winter is preparing to give way to the new season, the weather in the mountains and the snow-capped peaks remind us that it is not yet time to put away the ski equipment and take advantage of this period to spend the last days of sport and fun in the snow.

March is an unpredictable month, known not surprisingly for its ‘crazy’ character, which knows how to surprise with sudden snowfalls and alternating sunshine and rain.

In this article, we propose some activities for your March days on the Altopiano del Sole.

A VISIT TO THE GIOVETTO PARK

Exploring the Nature Reserve of the Boschi del Giovetto in March allows you to pass through landscapes where the last snows are still melting, and stretches where violets, primroses and snowdrops are beginning to bloom, heralding the arrival of spring.

The Parco del Giovetto covers a protected area of about 650 hectares and is known for being the first area in Europe to have created a protective environment for the Rufa ant, a rare specimen that performs an important function in defending the forest, counteracting the activity of species that are harmful to the ecosystem.

For trekking and walking enthusiasts, the Giovetto Park offers numerous opportunities to walk along paths suitable for all levels of walkers, in the shade of the large spruce forests.

Starting from the Croce di Salven parking area, it takes about 20 minutes to reach the Forest Library. Here, it is possible to stop and read a book while relaxing in the sun, at a spot where visitors can admire the view of the surrounding mountains.

The path to the Malga Creisa starts from the Parco del Giovetto, a destination where the view encompasses the village of Prave and Monte Ghigozzo, Monte Pora and the whitewashed peaks of Presolana and Ferrante.

CYCLAMEN PATH

The second itinerary we propose for the month of March is the Sentiero dei Ciclamini (Cyclamen Path): a route suitable for both hikers and bikers, winding through unspoilt nature between Borno and the Annunciata Sanctuary.

Starting in the area of the Borno cemetery, continue in the direction of ‘Tegola’ to the junction with signs for Annunciata.
The path leads through very suggestive passages, with small bridges, rocks and glimpses of the valley, until it reaches the last stone steps that descend directly to the road of the Annunciata sanctuary.
The hike lasts about one and a half hours.

For cycling enthusiasts, the path is quite smooth, but as it is strewn with roots, it is advisable to avoid riding it on rainy days or immediately after a storm. More information for cycling enthusiasts can be found at: https://asdebikerscamuni.com/2022/02/18/il-sentiero-dei-ciclamini-i-radicioni/

EVENTS

The BORNO STREET FEST event is scheduled for Sunday, 16 March.

On the third Sunday in March, the streets of Borno will be transformed into a large open-air stage, animated by street artists, jugglers, shows, workshops and many surprises for the enjoyment of young and old.
