HAPPY 2025 FROM ALTOPIANO DEL SOLE
Happy New Year! The year 2025 has just begun, and to get things off to a great start, we kick off the New Year with our column of tips for discovering the winter charms of the Altopiano del Sole. For ski and snow-board enthusiasts, January is undoubtedly a good time to plan a skiing holiday.
The Altopiano del Sole, with the Borno Ski Area, is an excellent choice for those wishing to spend few days in the snow. Even for the less sporty, there is no shortage of opportunities to discover the small villages, natural and cultural attractions and local food and wine traditions. With the family, with friends, as a couple or even alone, the area is a destination for every type of visitor. the area is a destination for every type of visitor. In January, skialper evenings begin again, allowing skiers to ascend the district’s slopes at sunset and reach Monte Altissimo in the evening (all information and updates on the evenings and snow conditions can be found on the official Borno Ski Area channels). From this year, the ski area also offers the new Bobsleigh area for the enjoyment of the little ones and, until 12 January, in the Dassa locality in Borno, you will find the Skating Rink open every day from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 14:30 to 23:00. What to do in January and what events are not to be missed on the Altopiano del Sole? We discuss them in this new article.
FESTIVITIES
The Christmas atmosphere continues until Epiphany! Until 6 January, you can visit Italy’s largest Lemax Christmas village in Piancogno, set up by Michele Rodella in Via Nazionale n.17. On Sunday, 5 January from 4 p.m., in Sommaprada di Lozio, the appointment with the Living Crib returns: an event that departs from similar traditional representations and focuses on the Epiphany instead of the Nativity, accompanied by the local choir ‘I Musicanti’.
A special feature of Lozio’s living nativity scene is its acting part. Conceived and written by the members of the organising group, the monologues and dialogues of the characters are designed not only to tell the story connected with the Epiphany, but also and above all to bring out the characteristics of the inhabitants of Lozio and even of its individual hamlets. In the new edition, characters inspired by real inhabitants will appear, who in the local dialect take part in the sacred event, bringing out the well-known merits and defects of the inhabitants of the village of Sommaprada.
The Living Crib will be a precious opportunity to explore the village, enhancing its simple beauty and evoking its history, folklore, customs and past (but never really extinct) ways of life.
On Monday, 6 January at 3.30 p.m., the prize-giving ceremony of the crib exhibition-competition “Nasce la speranza” (Hope is born) is scheduled to take place in the cloister of the Santuario dell’Annunciata, which can be visited every day from 2.30 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday also from 9.30 a.m. to 11.50 a.m.
