EXPERIENCE NOVEMBER ON THE ALTOPIANO DEL SOLE

Welcome November!

When the Altopiano del Sole enters the autumn season, the vivid colours of the maple, beech and chestnut trees provide a kaleidoscopic spectacle.

At this time, the air is soaked with the scent of roasted chestnuts, and as the days grow shorter and shorter, the chimneys of the houses begin to smoke to warm the inhabitants against the arrival of the first cold. November is a magical month: tranquillity and beauty come together to create a unique atmosphere, and on the Altopiano del Sole it is the perfect time to enjoy nature in unparalleled stillness.

But what to do in November on the Altopiano del Sole? Here are some ideas:

A VISIT TO LAVENO AND THE GIANT BENCH IN LOZIO

Walking through the picturesque streets of Laveno (Lozio) is always a good idea, but with the arrival of autumn, a stop at the Panchina Gigante (Giant Bench), which overlooks a colourful panorama, is a must.

Starting from the small village, where one cannot fail to admire the characteristic paintings decorating the façades of the houses and buildings, one continues towards the Panchina Gigante along a path of low difficulty, until arriving at the ‘Dos de l’ora’ locality and the picnic area.

Once you reach your destination, the wow effect with a view over the Lozio Valley is guaranteed!

TRIP TO THE ANNUNCIATION WITH A STOP AT THE STELE OF ST. MARTIN

November is the perfect time to visit the stele di San Martino, an installation erected in memory of an ancient legend. As you walk down the road from Ossimo Inferiore to the Santuario dell’Annunciata, you will find the stele on the right-hand side of the road. According to tradition, it was at that very spot that St Martin, returning from a battle tired and with his horse wounded, met the Devil.

The Devil challenged him to jump on the animal across the valley and, despite all expectations, St Martin, inspired by God, took the leap and reached the edge on the other side of the valley.

The challenger, on the other hand, in an attempt to perform the same feat, plunged into the deep ravine.
In memory of this event, the hoof marks of the steed remained on the rock for a long time, which were only removed during the construction of the road in 1964.

On St Martin’s Day (11 November), a stop at this place and a visit to the Santuario dell’Annunciata are highly recommended.

CLIMBING DAY AT THE BORNO CRAG

Do you love climbing? In Borno, a new dry tooling crag (rock climbing with ice equipment) was recently opened in the Triangolo locality, halfway between the centre and the Croce di Salven locality.

A crag surrounded by greenery that has 21 bolted routes and contributes to expanding the area’s sports offer.

To reach the crag, simply take the path that branches off from the horse road connecting Le Ogne with Croce di Salven, in the direction of Malga Corvino. In about half an hour, you will find yourself at the foot of the wall, where you can spend an autumn day in contact with nature and cultivating your passion for climbing.
