Strolling through the foliage on the Altopiano del Sole

5 DESTINATIONS WHERE YOU CAN ADMIRE THE AUTUMN LEAVES ON THE ALTOPIANO DEL SOLE

“You stand like autumn leaves on the trees” goes a famous line by Ungaretti, and on the Altopiano del Sole they are truly a wonder.

When the foliage covers the vast slopes and cool forests, the landscapes take on an irresistible charm, which captures the soul of inhabitants and visitors alike.

Discovering the most colourful places on the Altopiano del Sole is an excellent idea for a magical weekend, amidst forests of maple, chestnut and beech trees of a thousand shades.

In this new in-depth article, we have compiled a list of some of the most striking places to admire the autumn foliage on the Altopiano del Sole for you.

1. PRAVE

We open our ranking with the locality “Prave”: a unique area of its kind, which can be accessed either by a diversion along the Borno-Paline road or via a more demanding itinerary starting from Angolo Terme, the municipality to which it belongs.

It is a small hamlet where time seems to have stood still, where all you will find to populate the area are picturesque chalets with an architectural design that perfectly complements the unspoilt atmosphere of the place.

Nature reigns supreme here, and when the leaves of the rowan and larch trees put on their autumnal robes, you will witness a spectacle that will leave you truly speechless.

2. PAT

Another top destination for admiring the foliage on the Altopiano del Sole is surely Pat (Ossimo), where nature and history meet in the Asinino-Anvòia Archaeological Park, an archaeological site that preserves ceremonial boulders dating back to the Copper Age.

Here dense woods alternate with wide-open plains, where carpets of deciduous leaves create a very special effect.

Not only is the Pat area known for its historical value and beautiful views, but also for the presence of numerous chestnut trees, from which it is possible to pluck the generous fruit throughout the autumn period.

3. CROCE DI SALVEN

At Croce di Salven, autumn explodes in all its power.

On the road from Borno to Paline and the nearby Val di Scalve, breathtaking views open up in every direction, from the mountains of the Altopiano del Sole to the majestic Presolana.

Passing through the Doline Park, in the Giovetto Nature Reserve or along the road leading to Val Sorda, it is possible to find true corners of paradise, where the foliage lends an extra touch of class to Mother Nature’s grand design.

4. LAKE MORO

Lake Moro is not only a destination, but a certainty all year round.

As you walk along the path around the perimeter of the lake, you can encounter panoramas of extraordinary beauty, surrounded by chestnut forests from which you can admire the reflection of foliage in the rippling water. A truly unmissable attraction for those wishing to spend a weekend on the Altopiano del Sole.

5. THE VINE ROAD (MALEGNO – SUCINVA)

Reaching the village of Lozio via the old road that climbs the Lanico valley from Malegno to Sucinva is an excellent idea for hiking enthusiasts in search of breathtaking scenery.

A 5.5-kilometre itinerary, which can be covered in about 2.5 hours, surrounded by plants and unspoilt landscapes.

This route is known as ‘the road of the vines’, due to the presence of ‘Le icc (the vines)’ in the area just below Sucinva: an area well exposed to the sun, characterised by meadows and gentle slopes that once allowed the cultivation of vines.

We look forward to an unforgettable weekend strolling through the foliage on the Altopiano del Sole.
