Do you already know what to do in October?

DISCOVER OCTOBER EVENTS ON THE ALTOPIANO DEL SOLE

October has begun, and the landscapes of the Altopiano del Sole begin to display colours that range from yellow to orange to bright reds and ochres, giving the panoramas a note of bewitching charm.

Autumn is the time for slowness: the frenzy of summer slowly dies down and opens up the possibility of being in touch with nature in a more intimate way, intoxicated by the jubilation of unique scents and colours.

But what can we do in October on the Altopiano del Sole?

Let’s find out together in this new article, with events celebrating the products and traditions of the area.

1. PIANCOGNO – BETWEEN TRADITIONS AND NATURE – SUNDAY 2nd OCTOBER

We open the new column with a not-to-be-missed event: “Tra tradizioni e natura, un fiume di sapori” (Between traditions and nature, a river of flavours), a food and wine walk between the two banks of the River Oglio, to discover farms and typical local products.

From the Town Hall of Piancogno, the itinerary takes place in stages, so participants can stop to taste local specialities, but also watch a demonstration of traditional agro-pastoral activities.

At the end of the day, musical entertainment is scheduled, followed, for those who wish, by dinner at the ‘Trattoria Sport’ in Piamborno.

2. PIANCOGNO – PIANCOGNO IN THE VINEYARD – SUNDAY 9th OCTOBER

Torna Domenica 9 Ottobre Piancogno in Vigna”, l’evento dedicato alle cantine di Piancogno. A walk from the centre of Piancogno towards the piedmont area as far as the Annunciata hamlet, amidst vineyards, waterfalls and panoramic viewpoints of considerable interest. Stops are planned along the itinerary to taste the products of local vineyards and farms, during a day dedicated to the beauty of nature and the flavours of local food and wine excellence.

3. OSSIMO – ‘LO PANNER’ THE BREAD OF THE ALPS – FROM 11th TO 15th OCTOBER

The 7th cross-border festival Lo Panner – The bread of the Alps is scheduled in Ossimo Superiore from 11th to 15th October.

An event dedicated to the cultivation of cereals such as rye, barley and buckwheat, which have always been fundamental components of the diet of mountain territories.
Unlike wheat, these varieties adapt more easily to the climatic conditions at high altitudes, and for this reason they have been an essential element of subsistence for the inhabitants of the Altopiano del Sole.

From Tuesday 11th to Thursday 13th October, various initiatives dedicated to children and young people are planned, while on Saturday 15th it will be possible to visit the farmers’ market, watch a demonstration of rye threshing, and take part in the other events organised to celebrate the ‘bread of the alps’, which can be found in the dedicated poster.

4. LOZIO – BICICASTAGNO – SUNDAY 16th OCTOBER

The “Amici della Natura” (Friends of Nature) Group of Lozio is organising a bike ride from Villa to Laveno and back onSunday 16th October, followed by lunch and music.

A fun way to celebrate the arrival of autumn by pedalling among the wonders of an unspoilt territory. After refreshments at the Casa Arcobaleno (Rainbow House) in Villa di Lozio, an afternoon entertained by the band “Rusty Fingers” is scheduled, followed by roast chestnuts for all.

5. BORNO – HAERETICA – SATURDAY 22nd OCTOBER

On Saturday 22nd October Borno will host the new edition of Haeretica: the scariest night of the year, where at nightfall the old town centre will be enveloped in darkness, taking it back to medieval times. In the afternoon, it will be possible to visit the dark market and watch performances by musicians, jesters and hawks in flight, while from 10 p.m. onwards, demons and spirits, as well as concerts and themed exhibitions, will populate the streets of the village.
